GILBERT – Each year, the Higley Unified School District holds a ceremony honoring veterans, and each year retired Lt. Col. Margaret Desanti makes it her mission to teach the students about the sacrifices service members make for their country. The annual ceremony, which featured cannon fire and a parchuting demonstration, involved ROTC students from Higley as well as other area high schools. Desanti, who has 30 years of her own experiences to share with the students, said it has helped her as well as them.
