Observers expect same ethic, different style, as Gallego steps into Pastor’s shoes

WASHINGTON – Rep.-elect Ruben Gallego says he has big shoes to fill when it comes to replacing Rep. Ed Pastor, who is stepping down this year after 23 years in Congress. Those who know both men say they’re confident Gallego can do the job, but that people should expect to see a difference in style between the outgoing and incoming Phoenix Democrats. While Pastor was able to get things done with his “disarming style,” Gallego was known in the State House for a fighting spirit that one observer said is typical of “a new generation of Latino leaders” and suited to a different Congress.
