PHOENIX – The 65 electronic message boards that dot highways throughout the Phoenix metro area can display everything from commute times during rush hours to information on accidents or weather conditions that could affect traffic. The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced plans to bring the number of those signs up to 76 this year, in the department’s continuing effort to make traffic run more smoothly and safely, officials said. The message boards are kept up to the minute with road monitors that automatically track traffic and calculate travel times.
