PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety are teaming up in an attempt to speed response times to traffic accidents and improve safety of motorists and officers on the ground. Under the plan, a DPS officer will be on hand in DOT traffic-monitoring centers during peak traffic times to monitor the Valley’s almost 200 traffic cameras and help coordinate responses. Officials hope the program, which began Thursday, can help “close the communication gap” between traffic-monitoring centers and emergency workers on the ground aftern an accident.
