Women who immigrate illegally to the United States pass through a gauntlet of smugglers, abusers, kidnappers, rapists and murderers. In spite of the dangers, tens of thousands make the trip each year. Many become victims of crime. Some find themselves in federal detention. Others disappear and are never heard from again.
